“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Matthew 7:7-11

The Lord Jesus instructs us to come to God with our requests. Notice how simple it is. He doesn’t say: ask and fast for fourty days to make sure God knows you are serious. He doesn’t say ask with a lengthy prayer and make sure to sprinkle in at least 2 bible verses. He just says “ask”.

The Lord Jesus compares asking God for something to asking a parent. A child just comes to their parent and asks, simply.

We can come to God simply, as we are.

When we seek God, we will find Him. When we ask, we will receive His salvation. The greatest gift God gives us is life and salvation. However, He also gives us many other gifts!

This passage encourages us in the knowledge that God gives good gifts to His children.

He will not punish us for asking by giving us a curse instead of a blessing.

Parents give their children good gifts. God is an even better Father!

There are times when we get weary of asking. When the answer to our prayers seems long in coming. I know this. I can get discouraged. But “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” – Romans 8:32
We can trust the GOD who gave Himself up to die for us to do what is best for us.

Perhaps we will not get the answer to the prayer we had hoped for. But even if not, He will always give us the strength and the courage to endure and will bless us, now, and in the age to come.

Let’s not weary of asking.
