Today and yesterday I read most of (I admit I skimmed parts) of Is that really You, Lord?: The Story of Youth With A Mission, by Loren Cunningham with Janice Rogers.
Wow, this book is truly amazing! It is the story of how the mission organisation Youth With A Mission (YWAM) came to be. It shows how people, when they are willing to listen to God, and to listen to His supernatural guidance, can do really amazing things for Him – and through Him – by His power to guide and provide.
I wish that I experienced similar guidance in my life!
Somehow, I still think I have lots to learn, and honestly, I also think my own resistance of God’s will stands in the way – often I’d rather do what I’d like to do myself…
But God is good and He is powerful, and He has great power to change :). So I need to fix my eyes on Him, the author and perfecter of my faith, and be willing to listen.
Some of the most important things I learned from this book (or this book helped reinforce) are:
- Don’t seek the tools to do mission work or the miraculous experiences first – seek to know Jesus better.
- Mission is evangelism and helping people intertwined: love for God and love for our neighbour mixed.
- God can – and wants to – use everyone.
- It is possible for everyone to hear from God.
Cool that I was drawn to this book just before I am starting to go to a conference on missions myself :). I think this week could be a week where I learn a lot!
